Stay Afloat  -  Blog

One of my favorite things about Feng Shui is the revelation that happens by understanding the connection between our physical world and our inner world.  The ability to harness this connection for our own intentions definitely gives us a power over our lives.

As our lives continue to change, we can adapt our spaces to support us.

Mirrors and feng shui

Even with a little exposure to Feng Shui, the subject of Mirrors is bound to come up.  It has been said that Mirrors are the Aspirin to Feng Shui, with good reason!

So, lets explore mirrors.  How can Mirrors benefit us?
When dealing with the Five Elements, mirrors will read as the Water Element.  Therefore, if your space is out of balance, and needs Water, a mirror is a simple solution.

When dealing with Missing Spaces (an area of your home not covered by the Bagua), or even small spaces, a mirror will expand or open up the space.

Mirrors can also break up a space, such as a long hallway, which will slow down the beneficial chi.

A mirror allows your eyes to rest, as does a landscape.  If a landscape or window is not in place, a mirror will serve this purpose.

A mirror behind the stove can be especially beneficial, in that it reflects the food, thereby doubling the wealth.  This is also true when the mirror reflects food in the dining room.

As beneficial as mirrors are, there are some instances where a mirror is not ideal, such as across from your bed.  In this case, the mirror can disturb sleep, by giving a feeling that you are being watched.

Tips for mirrors:
  • Hang mirrors so that you have a full view of yourself
  • Mirrors should not be broken up (framed)
  • Mirrors should be in good condition, and clean
